At first adopted by a woman named Wendi, he is named Waffles. Unfortunately, Wendi's husband neglects him, refuses to let her keep him inside, and after several years, abandons him. Waffles searches for a new life, gradually making his way back where he spent summers as Bailey. He joyfully reunites with his old master Ethan, now in his 60s, lonely on his grandparents' old farm, now his. Not recognizing him, Ethan takes him to the local animal shelter, but later reclaims him, naming him Buddy. Finally sensing that he has finally found his true purpose, he reunites Ethan with a widowed Hannah, and they get married.
In the end, A Dog’s Way Home is a mostly-harmless fluff film that dog lovers will appreciate. You’ll forgive me though, for saying the Disney classic Incredible Journey from 1963 is still the best version of this kind of tale. A solid B film where I ugly-cried six times, including within the opening three minutes.

It has an I Can Only Imagine vibe when the father apologizes to his son and tries to become a better parent. Storywise, this movie is a lot better than the first movie and involves more plot. And is also more emotional than the first movie. I really don't know why critics don't like to watch this movie series. The first one was outstanding and I thought the second was pretty solid. There is vast amount of dogs on set and they nailed the training.

His girlfriend shallowly leaves him, so CJ becomes his primary caretaker. Once Trent is cancer-free, he urges CJ to accept a meeting with Gloria, who was at the time 9 months and 13 days sober. Now having warmed up to dogs, Gloria tearfully apologizes to CJ for her abusive nature, and gives CJ some of the things sent from Ethan and Hannah . They inspire CJ to write more songs and lead to her finally perform, overcoming her longstanding stage fright and beginning her musical career.
I dare you not to tear up when Bailey, his mission completed, joins Ethan in heaven. Despite the criticisms that could be made, the film's touching moments make for a fantastic viewing experience. Besides, who doesn't like the always amazing Dennis Quaid? I would definitely recommend this to filmgoers who love dogs or coming of age movies; just don't forget to have a few tissues stuffed into your trousers before you do.

Ethan and Bailey love to play with a football that finally goes flat. The movie spans about 25 or so years in CJ's life, it is well told and has a really good and rewarding conclusion. They have a great cast for the movie, and I will say that Dennis Quaid was phenomenal in the movie. But it is the dogs that steal the spotlight here, of course. And director Gail Mancuso really nailed it right on the head with this movie, making a very memorable and truly magnificent movie. This movie has something for everyone in the audience, and I am sure that everyone watching it will take it to heart and bring something with them from the movie once it has ended.
Occasionally, after occurring, these are never touched upon again, which is not only a wasted opportunity, but illustrates that they were simply used for shock value. I liked the first film but that was about it but this time round I got completely lost in it. Yes it was heartwarming soppy mush cliched at times but I loved absolutely every minute of it and was left wanting more. While this book might not be for everyone, it's a must read for animal lovers. Lots of emotional ups and downs, but in the end it left me feeling good and contented.

Yes, the acting could not beat the first movie, but it is still well-made and efficiently heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Have you read the book, “A Dog’s Purpose”? It’s a story about a dog who finds meaning in his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love. It’s a fictional story, but I believe dogs really do come to this planet with a purpose. This movie was harder for me to watch than A Dog’s Purposebecause my own family’s dog of 15 years recently died.

The picture and sound are first rate and the disc also has several interesting extras regarding making the movie. I will say that this movie is a feel-good movie that you can definitely watch more than once. And that is quite an accomplishment for director Gail Mancuso, believe you me.
